Verwood Brass Band Come to Oakdene

The residents at Oakdene were extremely fortunate this month to have their own private concert from Verwood Brass Band, who very kindly came and graced our residents with wonderful music as a rehearsal for upcoming concerts that they have lined up.

At Oakdene Care Home, we value the importance that music has on our residents and the benefits it has on their minds, bodies, and hearts. Not only is music delightful for our ears, but studies have shown that it can have positive impacts on our health in numerous ways.

Listening to music can promote relaxation and have a calming effect as well as encourage movement and mobility, which further helps with coordination and our overall physical health.

When music is listened to as part of a group or in a shared living situation, it can often encourage social interaction and can also be used as reminiscence therapy for its ability to remind people of past memories.

Because of the multiple benefits that music has, we often invite musicians and live entertainers to our home for performances and our residents love it. These are incorporated into our activities programme which is a weekly schedule coordinated by our activities team.

We go to great lengths to ensure our residents always have fun activities and events planned, whether of the musical kind, or whether it's crafts, quizzes, or just an afternoon at the pub.

We strongly believe that each and every one of our residents should be given the opportunity to continue to do the things they love, as well as be introduced to new hobbies and people to socialise with.
