Ruby’s Garden

Our resident, Ruby's, garden patch at Oakdene Care Home

At Oakdene Care Home in Wimborne Minster, our residents always come first, and our team do all that they can to ensure the overall wellbeing of our residents is taken care of.

One of our residents, Ruby, recently expressed how much she missed her garden at home, and as a result, was feeling very low and down. Our Home Manager, Carl, listened to how Ruby was feeling and decided to take action.

Carl offered to take Ruby home to get her plants and bring them back with her to Oakdene Care Home. Together they made her very own ‘Ruby's Garden’ which Ruby is delighted about. When the garden was complete, Carl and Ruby had an official grand opening, and Ruby now has her very own garden and a piece of her home which she can view from her bedroom and visit whenever she wants.

With the recent sunshine and warm weather, Ruby has been able to make good use of her garden, getting out in the fresh air, tending to her plants, and sharing her love for gardening with our other residents.

It is important to us that our residents don't ever feel as though moving into a care home has stripped them from the things they love and want to do. We always go above and beyond to ensure residents maintain hobbies, remain active and social, and are provided with an abundance of new opportunities.
