Getting Into the Christmas Spirit!
At Oakdene Care Home, the festive season is in full swing, and our residents have been embracing the Christmas spirit with joy and laughter through our varied activities programme. This past week, we enjoyed a trip to a local garden centre to admire the beautiful Christmas decorations and twinkling lights. One of our residents, Ruby, also chose to buy herself a beautiful plant to put into Ruby’s Garden, her pride and joy here at Oakdene. It was lovely to have continued support this month from our gardener Tom too, who came with us on our trips to help residents choose the perfect plants and pass on his gardening knowledge.
The day wouldn’t have been complete without a stop for tea and cake, which gave everyone a chance to relax, chat, and soak in the festive atmosphere. But the real magic happened when snow began to fall! Three of our residents couldn’t resist stepping outside to feel the snowflakes on their faces and tell us stories about snow days in their youths. Their smiles lit up the moment, reminding us of the pure joy that simple pleasures can bring.
One of our residents was particularly mesmerised when we took him to see the large Christmas tree and glowing star displayed by the council just outside our home. He stood in awe, captivated by the twinkling lights and the size of the display – a heartwarming memory none of us will forget.
Getting out and about this month gave our residents the opportunity to enjoy a change of scenery and feel a sense of independence. Whether it was shopping for plants, waving hello to passersby, or seeing the wonder in children’s faces, the day was filled with meaningful moments. At Oakdene Care Home, we strive to ensure our residents continue doing the things they love, no matter what stage of their life they are at.
These festive trips not only brought immense joy to our residents but strengthened the sense of community we have created here at Oakdene Care Home. The overall well-being of our residents is at the heart of everything we do and our team go above and beyond to ensure they continue to do the things they enjoy most and live life exactly how they want to.
