Creature Comforts Visit Oakdene
Our residents at Oakdene recently enjoyed a visit from Creature Comforts, who bought in a variety of animals such as snakes, lizards, bearded dragons, and tarantulas.
It was an exciting time for the residents as they got to pet the reptiles and arachnids, with some even being brave enough to hold them around their necks. Our members of staff also got involved and it was something different for everyone to enjoy.
Animal therapy has many great benefits for those living in care homes. Not only can the presence of animals helps to relieve feelings of stress, anxiety, depression, and loneliness, but they can also boost residents' moods and increase their activity levels.
During the session, residents got to socialise with the handlers and learn all about the various animals that they had brought in. Those involved also shared stories from when they had similar experiences with these types of animals which was a great form of reminiscence.
At Oakdene Care Home, we go above and beyond to create an activities programme that is varied and exciting, keeping our residents stimulated and giving them plenty of opportunities to continue their much-loved hobbies, pursue interests and meet new people.
We look forward to welcoming the Creature Comforts back again soon for another afternoon of fun.
