Christmas at Oakdene

December was a busy month for the staff and residents at Oakdene Care Home, with lots of festive activities taking place.

For many people, Christmas is a time that evokes happy, special memories about times shared with family and traditions. At Oakdene Care Home, it is crucial to us that we ensure residents are able to keep up their traditions, which also plays an important part in reminiscence.

Talent Show

The staff and residents held a Christmas talent show and it's safe to say we have some very talented people here at Oakdene Care Home.

The residents and staff performed for each other and we were treated to singing, puppets, and a violin performance.

It was so lovely for everyone to learn what skills people possess and to get to know each other just that little bit more.

Christmas Crafts

Craft sessions are held at Oakdene Care Home at all times of the year, but as we head towards Christmas, they naturally become a lot more festive-themed.

Our residents have been very creative throughout December, creating Christmas greeting cards and festive decorations. Arts and crafts are a great group activity that the residents can enjoy together, and it also gives residents something to be proud of once finished.

Crafting activities can really help stimulate the mind and offers a great sense of purpose. Its always lovely to see residents having fun, taking pride in their creations, and gifting the to loved ones.

A Special Visit

The residents enjoyed a visit from ‘Pig the Pug’ this month, and residents were only too happy to give Pig lots of strokes and cuddles.

Animal and pet therapy is a brilliant activity that involves all residents as sessions can be held in both communal areas in the homes as well as in residents' individual rooms.

The impact that animals have on people in general but especially care home residents is incredibly positive. It helps improve their mood, reduces stress levels, and encourages interaction. It can also be a part of reminiscence for those who previously owned pets.

It is clear that our residents love being around animals and we look forward to welcoming more into the home in 2023.

We have enjoyed celebrating the festive period here at Oakdene Care Home, and we have very much enjoyed welcoming loved ones and members of the community to join us. We would also like to thank all of our generous relatives for such lovely gifts that the staff received at Christmas, it is very much appreciated.

We wish you all a very Happy New Year.
